American Guinea Hogs

6/25/2015 Availability:

Piglets: We still have a few breeding quality gilt piglets from our spring litters. We have one gilt from the first litter (born 3/24) and four gilts from the second (born 4/25). Each litter contained 10 piglets but only the best are selected as breeding stock. The official inbreeding coefficient for the gilt born on 3/24 is 8.7% while the unofficial inbreeding coefficient for the 4/25 litter is 10.3% (we haven’t received the official yet). Both litters have been weaned and are available immediately. Breeding stock piglets are $225. Pedigrees from each litter, photos of specific piglets and photos of the sows are available upon request (the sire is Wilbur, listed for sale below). We will be traveling from Wisconsin through Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia in the beginning of July so we may be able to meet or drop-off for a fee.

2 year old proven boar: We also have available a 2 year old registered, proven boar from solid foundation lines with a great, low inbreeding coefficient of 1.6%! GSGF Lord Wilbur was our first boar and, while we love his gentle temper and great fathering ability, it is time for him to move on to a new home. He has fathered six litters for us (sizes of 9, 7, 9, 4, 10, 10). He is respectful, good around kids and built like a tank. He has minor white points due to his Setty and Samson heritage. He does great on pasture and has been fed only organically certified feed. We will be traveling from Wisconsin through Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia in the beginning of July so we may be able to meet or drop-off for a fee. Wilbur is $400.

We hold piglets for at least 10-12 weeks before selling any potential breeding stock (unlike most places that sell at 6-7 weeks). That means we have additional time to evaluate the piglets and only sell the best of the litter. All breeding stock are purebred, registered American Guinea Hogs. Feeder piglets are typically sold at 8-10 weeks. Feeders are purebred American Guinea Hogs, but are not registered.

Because we are always looking to improve our herd, we may hold a piglet for evaluation for several months to a year to determine if he/she is a candidate for our breeding program. For our customers, that means we will sometimes have older piglets or even proven breeding stock available  as we work to improve/preserve the genetics of our American Guinea Hogs. Prices vary on older stock and will be posted with each individual animal.
